When we connect with nature we are more likely to protect it. So with a forecast for a crisp, sunny autumn morning, we shut our laptops, left the office and, along with a few members of our team, ventured into the great outdoors.
Angie {our Sustainability Specialist} led the way, with Otalia {our Warehouse Assistant} and Molly-Mae {our Store Assistant}, as we set foot on one of our favourite coastal rainforest tracks on Bundjalung Country to celebrate our collaboration with Climate Council, a non-profit organisation formed as a ‘rebel alliance’ when the Climate Commission was abolished in 2013.
We took in nature’s beauty on offer ~ the waves peeled perfectly, and dolphins arrived right on time as we gazed between the eucalypt and banksia trees across the beaches at The Walgun headland.
We paused for a break on the rocky beach to sip a lemon myrtle tea brewed with leaves plucked from the branches that morning and peeled open our beeswax wraps filled with snacks from our local bulk food store. Whilst we enjoyed the trailside refreshments, we reflected on the necessity of connecting with the natural world and what can be done here in Australia to help conserve the environment and reduce emissions.
We’ve been supporting Climate Council for five years ~ and we are passionate about their work catalysing change for climate policy and promoting solutions to reduce Australia’s carbon emissions.
In partnership with Climate Council, we had the opportunity to create this limited edition Let The Sun Shine In Tee and Cap. This capsule was inspired by our country’s renewable power potential: being powered by the sun.
According to Climate Council, “Australia has enough sun and wind to be a world leader in renewable energy, as well as in industries such as clean manufacturing, minerals processing and renewable hydrogen.”
Climate Council strives to get the critical scientific reports out to citizens of Australia in digestible and understandable language, and campaigns to our politicians to make legislative changes that will propel Australia towards bold, effective action to have emissions plummet during the 2020s and hit net zero by 2035.
Our Let the Sun Shine In Tee and Cap releases Tuesday, May 16, 100% of proceeds go to Climate Council.
So this is your reminder: Get outside, connect to protect, and Let the Sun Shine In.
