NORTHERN RIVERS FLOODS, MARCH 2022

We have donated $98,637 to local Bundjalung not-for-profit Bunjum Aboriginal Co-operative on behalf of our entire Spell community.

Bunjum is a wholly Aboriginal owned community-led organisation who have been active since 1959. Through the provision of holistic, integrated services they enable and empower local Aboriginal community members.

The recent flood has had a devastating impact on local Aboriginal communities. Bunjum’s services cover the Ballina LGA (Cabbage Tree Island, Wardell, Ballina, Alstonville, Wollongbar and Lennox Head). Many Aboriginal families have been impacted emotionally and financially and communities have lost everything, houses, community centres and schools; the trauma will be felt for decades to come. Bunjum have implemented short-term and long-term strategies to help their communities.

Every cent of our donation will go toward flood relief:
Short-term
Short term housing and crisis support
Healing Trauma and well-being counselling
Clothing, food and phone access
Supporting children’s return to a learning environment
Helping Elders and community’s most vulnerable to access services resources

Long Term
Rebuilding infrastructure of cultural significance
Restoring farming land
Support Women’s and Men’s groups by maintaining services

1% FOR THE PLANET

As proud members of 1% For The Planet (from July 2018 - July 2020) we donated a total of A$372,501 to environmental not for profits Climate Council and Women's Earth Alliance.

Though we ceased our 1% membership during the COVID-19 pandemic, we valued every single minute being a member of this wonderful organisation. 1% for the Planet was more than just a membership, it was a community in itself. We look forward to a time in the near future when we can again support environmental organisations close to our hearts.
